Detectives in Portugal have questioned two people over the disappearance of British youngster Madeleine McCann.

Police in Portimao re-interviewed a man and a woman, one Portuguese, one foreign.

They are believed to be Michaela Walczuch, the German lover of Robert Murat - the only official "suspect" in the case so far - and her estranged husband Luis Antonio, who were both questioned before on the night Mr Murat's house was searched by police.

Mr Murat has not been charged or even formally arrested but remains the police's main line of inquiry in the case. He strenuously denies any involvement in Madeleine's abduction.

Madeleine was snatched from her bed as her parents ate dinner on May 3 in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.

Her parents have made a personal pilgrimage to pray for a miracle.

Holding presents, flowers and a single set of Rosary beads, Gerry and Kate McCann sat among more than 1,000 pilgrims praying for her safe return at Portugal's holiest site.

The couple fulfilled a long-standing ambition to visit the Marian shrine of Fatima, north of Lisbon, which has become a focus of prayers for four-year-old Madeleine.

Her parents, who are making preparations to personally travel around Europe to appeal for help, set off from Praia da Luz early in the morning for the four-hour drive to Fatima.

The shrine is the site of a series of visions of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children, including two young girls, in 1917.
