DARFUR CRISIS - NO MORE EXCUSES

"When African Union peacekeepers are present, the Janjawid do not dare to attack. But the peacekeepers are not interested in the displaced." A Masalit woman from Darfur, who recently fled to Chad

The conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan, in neighbouring Chad and in the Central Africa Republic has been raging for four years.

Behind the statistics - 3 million displaced, 300,000 dead - there is a human story. Civilians have borne the brunt of the conflict. Murder, rape, torture and mass forced displacement of civilians continue to be used as weapons of war.

We need your support

What are Amnesty International doing?

We are calling on the governments of Sudan and Chad to allow an effective UN peackeepers into the region by 30th June. We are demanding action from the governments of the world to bring about an end to this humanitarian crisis and to:

stop rape being used as a weapon of war
protect civilians throughout the region
prevent the spread of human rights abuses to refugees and displaced people
stop the flow of arms
hold perpetrators to account
implement an agenda for peace

So what have Amnesty International already done?

We have continued to make sure the crisis in Darfur is not forgotten and lobbied governments around the world to address the situation
Campaigned for an arms embargo in Sudan so that arms don't fuel the conflict.
Talked to the people of Darfur and reported their stories
Campaigned for the victims of Darfur, calling for justice for those affected by the conflict.
We need your support so we can continue to help the people of Darfur and make sure that there are no more excuses. Please join Amnesty today.
