"When African Union peacekeepers are present, the Janjawid do not dare to attack. But the peacekeepers are not interested in the displaced." A Masalit woman from Darfur, who recently fled to Chad
The conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan, in neighbouring Chad and in the Central Africa Republic has been raging for four years.
Behind the statistics - 3 million displaced, 300,000 dead - there is a human story. Civilians have borne the brunt of the conflict. Murder, rape, torture and mass forced displacement of civilians continue to be used as weapons of war.
